There is always a time in your life when you do something for the first time. Sometimes it is something exciting. Other times, you wish that you wouldn't have had to do that something for the first time.
Well, I have had a lot of "firsts" lately. Some of them were pleasant, and others not so much! But before I delve into my list, I must mention the psycology behind doing something for the first time. (I am not an expert, but have been evaluating these things in my own life)
I think that this started when I turned 21 this past summer. It was such a mental hurdle, because there is something about reaching that "magical age of 21" and suddenly feeling like an adult. The thing that always tripped me up was that I didn't feel like an adult, so was I really just an immature person, but I had to "grow-up"? Finally I realized (with the help of wise counsel) that maturity doesn't only have anything to do with age and experiences, but with your responsibility to the things that you do. When I finally realized this, it was such a relief! So, doing things for the first time, is also apart of growing up and maturing.
The first "first" was moving farther away from home. I have already been to college for three years, but I was only 1 1/2 hrs. from home. It was so nice to be near my family, but it is also good to be more "on my own". Along with moving farther away was the challenge of starting over making new relationships and learning the ropes of a new school. Some days are more challenging than others, but I know that Calvary Bible College is where the Lord wants me. And I am glad to be here!
The next "first" is definitely the biggest at this point! I broke my finger--first broken bone. And I got 5 stitches--my first stitches. This happened after a "run in" with a window...actually it was more like a guillotine! (but it didn't cut my finger off!) This was the first time that I have ever had a major medical emergency, so in some ways it was slightly traumatic. The window is fine, by the way! :)
Having "firsts" in my life has reminded me of a very important priniple: God will provide!
God will provide when I am far away from home.
God will provide the friendships.
God will provide the finances to pay for an unseen injury.
God will provide...
